Vehicle design is an intrinsically complex field as it involves various intertwined aspects that have to be carefully weighed and balanced in order to achieve the optimum results. Aesthetics cannot overpower the engineering, sturdiness and reliability cannot forego completely the concept of comfort or ergonomics, and technologically advanced materials and production costs must be weighed against the target market. Successful designs are appreciated and inspiring regardless of when they were created.

Some vehicles have taken on an additional meaning or have become iconic also because of the famous people that drove them or famous movies they vehicles were used in. From James Dean’s Porsche 550 Spider, to James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5, to Gregory Peck’s Vespa in Roman Holiday.

Below are only a few examples of designs, models or brands, that are either too intriguing to overlook or have become long lasting classics. Click on any image to enlarge it and to scroll through the rest.
